Biography

P1050631Valerie Taylor is the owner, operator and director of Brunswick School of Dance. She is a native of Brunswick County. She started dancing when she was 5 years old. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance (Teacher/Choreographer). Soon after graduation, Valerie opened Brunswick School of Dance in 1983.
Brunswick School of Dance was voted best studio in 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014 for “Best of Brunswick”. This past May she celebrated her 34th year serving Brunswick County!

Valerie has been instrumental in bringing dance to the public schools in Brunswick County and getting dance added to the high school arts curriculum. She taught dance in the public schools and directed the high school dance team for over ten years.
Valerie serves her community through her liturgical dance group known as “Son Dance”. They worship at beach and church services, festivals and “ Relay for Life” in Brunswick County through dance. She has been the founder and director of “Son Dance” for the past 23 years. She was the first to organize a liturgical dance group in this area.

Valerie also has participated with her church on mission trips to Mexico during the summers to help the under privileged. She is very active in The First Tee of Brunswick County, a non-profit organization that teaches life skills and core values through the game of golf to the youth. She was the recipient of the “Female Volunteer of the Year” award for 2012.

Valerie has also participated in “Dancing with the Brunswick Stars” every year which is a fund raiser for student scholarships at Brunswick Community College. In 2010 she won “ Best in Choreography”!

Valerie has a passion and desire for the youth of Brunswick County to see them succeed and become well rounded creative adults! She is very excited to be starting another wonderful year doing what she loves best – teaching dance to the youth of Brunswick County!
